Where did April go?

It seems like I was just posting, but I see that was two weeks ago. I spent lots of time working on the big French contest, which ended up with 997 student entries (after 50 last-minute cancellations). It went pretty well -- there were a few minor issues. I'm glad it's over. Now I can start thinking about going back to work in the fall. I have a meeting with the assistant principal tomorrow morning to go over my "transition back to work". I hope to get some of my questions answered. The weather has been pretty nice -- with some needed rain this past weekend.

Job Placement for Next Year

I was called on Thursday and given my job placement for next year. I will be teaching 2 Spanish classes and 3 French classes at Rosemount High School (very similar to the job I had for 10 years prior to my leave - same place, same class load). Given the budget cuts and consequently redesigning of positions in the district, my assignment is bittersweet as one of my colleagues lost her job because of it. The decision was made at the district level and neither the building principal nor I had any say in the matter. For those of you unfamiliar with the public school system and teachers union -- tenure and seniority play into job positions especially in times of crisis. Since I was on an approved leave of absence and have been with the district for 16 years now, my re-entry after 6 years in addition to the loss of some education revenue caused some redesigning of jobs.

Happy Easter!

We got up early to find presents from the Easter bunny. Each boy received a chocolate cross, Peeps, color by number and small game. Then it was off to 8 am Mass which was very crowded. We stopped home briefly before heading to Owatonna for the day. We spent a few hours with my folks -- the boys found the hidden eggs with Cheez-Its and Animal Crackers inside and we played some games with them. Then we made the mile trek to my uncle and aunt's house for Easter dinner. Luckily the weather was perfect for riding bikes and spending time at the park which kept the boys out of Uncle Ed's antiques for a while! We left late afternoon and the kids were wiped out from the busy day.
